2012 The Houston Classic Auction Offered Without Reserve ESTIMATE: $55,000 - $ 75,000 CHASSIS NO: SCFAB423XYK400727 Fastidiously Maintained and Serviced Only 8,800 miles From New 6.0 Litre Alloy V12 engine, 420 HP, six-speed Getrag manual transmission, rack and pinion steering with power assist, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes; wheelbase: 102” Aston Martin had the unique opportunity to design an all new car on someone else’s nickel in the early ‘90s, as an influx of Ford Motor Company cash allowed extensive development and testing that was far beyond anything the old Aston-Martin could muster. It is reported that over 20 complete prototypes of the DB7 were constructed, with the final styling penned by Ian Callum. The goal was a smaller Aston that would be a volume seller, and the engine initially was a supercharged straight six borrowed from Jaguar. The soft top version, dubbed Volante, made its debut on the 1996 Auto Show circuit. It was beautiful and sold well, but was subsequently a bit upstaged in 1999 with the introduction of a new V12 engine that launched the Vantage into supercar status. The big V 12 pushed 420 HP to the wheels, but added a mere 122 pounds to the overall weight, using an aluminum alloy block and cylinder heads. The front suspension was also upgraded to handle this new influx of power. Suddenly, top speeds above 180 MPH were possible, with 0-60 times under five seconds easily realized. Aston Martin had achieved a market-friendly position with the DB7 - super-car performance in a beautiful package that was still easily driven on the street. Its elegant design, which looks as good with the top up or down, offers every modern convenience with classic Aston Martin good looks and panache, and as a result, the V12 Volante quickly became the best selling Aston Martin model of all time. Overall, during its run from 1994-2004, the DB7 in all forms became the highest production Aston Martin ever, with over 7,000 vehicles produced at the plant in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. This beautiful example is completely original from the factory, right down to the tires, and has covered a scant 8,800 miles from new. It sports gorgeous deep black paint in excellent condition, with a sumptuous red leather interior that certainly invites you in to a cockpit full of performance and luxury. Both the body work and the interior are flawless and presented today in as-built condition. The car is fully equipped with air conditioning, power steering, power windows, and power brakes, and an AM/FM CD changer for those rare moments when the wonderful howl of the V12 engine is not sufficient music for your ears. Stopping is handled by ventilated, cross-drilled discs on all four wheels with four piston calipers and ABS. The six-speed manual gearbox is a delight to drive and allows comfortable all-day cruising at Autobahn speeds. Aston Martin has been able to engineer a design that celebrates its deep pedigree, yet achieves an enviable high-speed stability and aerodynamic balance. It’s the classic, timeless Aston Martin styling that reminds us of the James Bond vehicles but with far more technology than even 007 could have imagined.
