Chassis XKC 039 was originally supplied to Peter Whitehead, whose career included winning the 1951 Le Mans at the wheel of a Jaguar C-Type as well as numerous Formula One drives with Ferrari, Cooper and Alta. The first outing in 039 was at Goodwood in 1953 where it easily secured first place. Goodwood was quickly followed by Silverstone and a win at the 12 Hours of Hyeres, concluding its 1953 season at Lisbon. In 1954 039 moved to Australia, being repatriated by the great enthusiast and collector Peter Agg. Acquired through Fiskens in 1997 by the former manager of Ronnie Petersen, Steffan Svenby, 039 has regularly achieved success in the BRDC 50’s Sports Car Championship as well as a podium finish at the Goodwood Revival. Svenby sold 039 to none other than the hero whose success in the XK120 sowed the seeds that gave birth to the C-Type - Sir Stirling Moss. Having competed over so many years in such a number of different sports racing cars, it is telling that Sir Stirling chose this C-Type as his own personal car in which to compete. The recent restoration highlighted that XKC 039, despite its extensive competition history, is a remarkably original example, offering an opportunity to acquire one of the most original Jaguar C-Type’s in existence. |
